Sharieta Berghuis
Biography : Sharieta (1990) is an artist based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. After graduating in 2013 from HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht), Sharieta Berghuis was the winner of the Hel Ved Creative Call, setting the stage for her as a young talent. Since then she has had various exhibitions at diverse prestigious art fairs in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and was selected for the Dutch BankGiro Loterij Talent Collection of the Unseen Photo Fair 2014. In her series "Inpatensa" Sharieta translates her inner quest for a sense of familiarity. With the use of natural light, well-selected environments and an innovative use of props she explores how being raised abroad influences the concept of “home." This coming year, Sharieta will be working on the second phase of this project. In this new adventure she will return “home" to the places in Indonesia where she lived as a child, to discover what remains there for her. Sharieta Berghuis is also currently working together with another photographer under the name SILVER PAPER. Isabelle Wenzel
Biography : Isabelle Wenzel (b. 1982, Wuppertal) lives and works in Germany. She studied photography from 2008-2010 at the Gerrit Rietveld Akademy in Amsterdam. Since then she received several grants like the European Photo Exhibition Award from the Körber-Stiftung Hamburg in 2011, the Mondriaan Fonds in 2013 and from the Kunstfonds Nordrhein Westfalen in 2106 amongst others. Her work has been widely exhibited in national and international solo and group shows. She confronts the visitor with partly surreal and partly dynamic studies of the human body. The show cropped sections of a performance created especially for the camera. Her main emphasis is on the photographs’ performative and sculptural aspects. The result is images that depict and explicitly created and staged world in which Wenzel takes the stage as photographer, model, sculpture and, in the final instance, as viewer, too. All three levels meld here into one new medium.

Isolde Woudstra
Biography : Isolde Woudstra (1982, Harlingen) is based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. She studied photography at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. Her work has been exhibited at places like Foam Photography Museum Amsterdam, Krakow Photomonth, Nova Cultura Contemporanea and diverse international art fairs like Unseen Photo Fair, Rotterdam Contemporary, and Photo Off Paris. In the photography of Woudstra everything seems ever so natural but confusing at the same time. She creates images that seem both possible and unlikely by specially curating a scene that could have been extracted deep from within the human psyche. The images cut out all unnecessary noise and leave us with clean, yet very natural and unpolished self-referential freeze frames. Spoon bending daily-life with the aid of her lens, Woudstra shines through the latent relatable darkness of her autonomous vision. “Spoon bending daily-life with the aid of her lens, Woudstra shines through the latent relatable darkness of her autonomous vision." - Dazed & Confused "Isolde's music, fashion, and portrait photography is strong, very well composed, sensible and never boring. She captures life with a strong eye for the beauty of normality, creating images that reveal the effortless oddness of in-between moments. Her images cut out all unnecessary noise, leaving us with clean, yet very natural and unpolished self-referential freeze frames." - Subbacultcha! "Name a few cool acts around and it's likely Isolde Woudstra has shot them. From Austra to Lemontrip, Com Truise and Grimes to TR/ST, they've all stood in front of her camera. Woudstra gained fame with her particular well-composed and clean images that never seem to bore. Her strong focus didn't go by unnoticed and her photos were featured in renowned magazines like Subbacultcha, I-D, Mixmag, Esquire & Volkskrant Magazine." - Amsterdam Dance Event “Photographer Isolde Woudstra manages to capture the eerie hyperrealism of daily life through the medium of photog Exhibition : Exhibitions 2017 Art Wynwood | Art Miami, RARE birds Gallery, Miami 2016 L.A.N., Melkweg gallery, Amsterdam 2016 Not For Sale, with Girl on Girl collective, Brooklyn, New York 2016 Proces 2.0, Krakow Photomonth, Krakow 2016 Rotterdam Contemporary, RARE birds Gallery, Rotterdam 2015 This Art Fair, Beurs van Berlage, RARE birds Gallery, Amsterdam 2015 The Performance, Volkshotel x ADE, Amsterdam 2015 Graukunst, Melkweg, Amsterdam 2014 Ritualism, Melkweg Gallery x RARE birds Gallery, Amsterdam 2014 New Frontiers in Contemporary Photography, Gallery Tryffelgrisen, Stockholm 2014 Sample, Gallery 12, Belgrade 2013 Photo Off, Paris 2013 Every Forest Has Its Shadow (solo show), Subbacultcha, Amsterdam 2012 Demophobia, duo show with Synchrodogs, Galerie 180, Dordrecht 2012 Unseen Photo Fair, Amsterdam 2012 Music &Foam, Amsterdam 2011 What’s Next?, FOAM, Amsterdam 2011 Nova Cultura Contemporanea, Rio de Janeiro 2010 Vanitas, Bright Young Things x Streetlab, Meneer de Wit, Amsterdam 2010 Fashion Clash, Maastricht

ABOUT

RARE birds, a boutique gallery for contemporary photography
Leonie Klomp   Founder + Gallery Manager
We bring you the RARE birds: the rare rising talent straight out of the land of the Dutch Masters. With our roots in Amsterdam we specialize in European art, Dutch photography in particular. We recently spread our wings to bring you these rare birds overseas in our new sparkling base Miami.

We are not your ordinary gallery. We curate exhibitions in rare unexpected spaces; empty buildings, roof-terraces or in an inspiring city abroad. These birds do fly. We take part in international art fairs e.g. Artwynwood | Art Miami 2017, Rotterdam Contemporary 2016, This Art Fair Amsterdam 2015, KunstRAI Amsterdam 2014, Unseen Photo Fair Amsterdam 2014.
We sell our artworks in limited editions also online.
