Martina Navratilove

The most successful female tennis player of the Open era  and visual artist Martina Navratilova has teamed up with contemporary artist Juraj Kralik for their first U.S. exhibit. Transporting each others creative energy and vision around the sport of tennis into art through abstract paintings. Their collaboration celebrates the adventure of a true champion and the imagination imported from their first hand experiences of loving the sport of tennis and Art. The artists together reach a creative intersection and create a unique dialogue through the juxtaposition of an athlete who redefined her sport through will, determination, and unprecedented athleticism turned visual artist.

Navratilova’s hard work and natural ability as an athlete allowed her to redefine tennis. Her artistry on the court was evident as she used the court as a canvas and precisely used the powerful stroke of her racquet to create some of the most memorable moments in professional tennis. Navratilova and Kralik team up as artistic doubles partners to express the real-time movements of their combined craft with contemporary works that are abstract in nature and have an acute touch of realism. The works  convey energy, movement, time and tranquility. The work is reinforced with a sense of Navratilova’s natural athletic and artistic instinct by highlighting her visualization of her time on the court. The exhibition tests both artists sensitivity for combining the dialogue between the athlete and the sport without ever seeing the human form.

A portion of the proceeds from sales will help enhance the “Perry J. Cohen Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.” www.pjcf.org
