Detailed Description : French artist François Bard’s oeuvre is often described as “epic” or “monumental.” Yet he paints the most ordinary of subjects, transforming them into powerful metaphors of human emotion. Hard to define, he is a conceptual experimentalist disguised as a traditionalist. His paintings invariably elicit more questions than answers. Elusive and multi-layered, images of everyday people and places suggest meaning, and hint at the emotional content just beyond our grasp. Recognized as one of the great French figurative painters working today, Bard was born in Lille, France in 1959. He graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1980, and was selected for a two-year residency at the prestigious Casa Velázquez, Madrid in 1988, before being awarded the Prix Paul Belmondo at Paris’s Salon d’Automne in 1990. From 1990 to 2000, Bard taught as a professor at the Ateliers des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and now divides his time between his Paris studio and his home in Burgundy, southeast of Pris

Biography : Stevens was born in Paris, where he graduated from the Penninghen Design School. He dedicated himself metal sculpture and was soon producing anthropomorphic sculptures and automata. In recent years, Stevens has moved away from figurative sculpture; he now focuses on the representation of space through powerful mural compositions. Steel remains his favorite medium: a fairly basic material, it lends itself to all sorts of experimentation. Each sculpture offers up a spatial equation, a mathematical formula. Each combines the principles of concentration and expansion: the optical illusion is the result of a process whereby the tension between opposing forces is cancelled out, producing a striking impression of suspended motion. The assembled elements seem to be both in free-fall and levitating, both static and animated by the flow of air or the pull of gravity. Broken Clouds is thus an invitation to gaze into virtual skies and the expanding universe. The structures holding the elements together are carefully concealed, so that each composition seems to be floating. The metal is given a different surface treatment, depending on the final effect intended. In some cases, the metal is left raw while certain areas are polished; the color and texture of the metal are subtly altered, as is the way it absorbs or reflects the light. Elsewhere, Stevens applies acid to certain surfaces in order to add depth and tone. An additional illusion is thereby produced: in those compositions where some of the facets are oxidized, the metal seems to have morphed into another material.

Detailed Description : Stevens Dossou-Yovo uses primarily steel and focuses on representations of space through his commanding geometric compositions. The elements joining the structures are well-concealed giving them a weightless appearance and, as a result, counterbalancing the gravity of the metal. Drawing inspiration from the sky and playing with optical illusions, his work communicates limitlessness, questioning the origins and confines of reality. Mathematical and metaphysical, Dossou-Yovo treats the surfaces of the steel in his sculptures in a variety of different ways. He polishes some areas while leaving others raw, alters the color and texture of some areas to play with light, adds depth and tone by applying acid to their surfaces, etc. Together the combination of the textures, finishes and colors (or lack thereof) on Dossou-Yovo's geometric abstractions form what could be compared to three-dimensional pixelated clouds.

Biography : After training in engineering, Ducatteau attended the Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts) School in Paris (drawing, painting, modeling, glass blowing). She holds a diploma in engineering as well as ironworking. After working for a several years in a group workshop in Roubaix, Nord Department, Stephane Ducatteau now lives and works in Normandy, one hour away from Paris.

Detailed Description : Stephane Ducatteau is a contemporary artist designer working basically with sheet metal. For artist, furniture is a support to develop a certain aesthetic. His way of creating a furniture object is close to sculpture. Elegant curves and comfortable shapes that the artist gives to the objects evoke emotions and sensuality. Due to an use of sheen the metal gains the brilliance of ebony. Each piece of the artist's furniture is unique. It is not just a magnificent result of the iron craft, but also an art object.

Biography : Enrique was born in Havana, Cuba in 1960. He left Cuba as a child and lived in Madrid , Spain, and later moved to the United States. He began his academic studies at the Alfred Glassell School of Art (Houston, TX) in 1991. Although exile impacted his life in the most profound way; Enrique, like Matta, does not only consider himself a Latin American artist since his education and professional growth took place in the United States.

Detailed Description : Focusing on technology and urban sub-cultural modes to inform the finished aesthetic product, Jorge Enrique offers a specific perspective on the dizzying shifts between man and machine that he describes as “revved up minimalism” – sparse in colors that never mix, and very simple elements multiplied in a very intense repetitive manner in his mixed media works. Enrique names Jasper Jones, Cy Twombly, and Robert Rauschenberg among the masters who influenced his own artistic vision. Thus, in his recent projects, he delivers frozen and petrify mathematically-driven, codes flowing at a breakneck pace in totem poles in ‘Numbers’ (2007), elevating those systems with the city’s grit in ‘Urban D-construction’ (2009-2012), and projecting its progress as illuminated by a distinctive American subculture in ‘Low Ride’ (2011), Enrique’s artistic development displays noted signs of an artistic practice informed by accepted contemporary artistic movements, and simultaneously rewarded with a degree of poignant storytelling relaying his own background and social influences. Appropriating the traces directly from the streets of Miami , Enrique builds its urban mythology: "deconstructing these images brought me to a new visual order, a place to explore, as the foundation for a new home…"

Biography : Guneriussen was born in 1977, in Kongsberg, Norway. He attended Eiker college 1992-1996 and received a BA in photography from Surrey Institute of Art & Design, 2002. He currently lives and works in eastern Norway.

Detailed Description : Rune Guneriussen uses man-made objects to build temporary installations in the natural settings to create his ethereal photographic works. Most ordinary every day items, such as electric lamps, books, chairs, etc.; were placed by the artist in untouched Norwegian landscapes where these objects are seemingly the only indication of the human presence. Guneriussen believes that the human approach to nature is too invasive. Therefore, with his projects, he assembles site-specific sculptures and installations creating the most enchanting of worlds, photographs them and takes them apart afterwards leaving no trace behind – as a suggestion for a more gentle approach. “This process involves the object, story, space and most important the time it is made within. It is an approach to the balance between nature and human culture, and all the sublevels of our own existence”, states the artist himself. As an artist he believes strongly that art itself should be questioning and bewildering as opposed to patronizing and restricting. As opposed to the current fashion he does not want to dictate a way to the understanding of his art, but rather indicate a path to understanding a story.

Biography : Huxley was born in 1965 and currently lives and works in London. He received a BA Honors Fine Art from the Trent Polytechnic Nottingham in 1989 and attended the Royal Academy Diploma Royal Academy of Arts London 1989-1992.

Detailed Description : Absolute zero is the coldest possible temperature. More formally, it is the temperature at which entropy reaches its minimum value. The laws of thermodynamics state that absolute zero cannot be reached using only thermodynamic means... By international agreement, absolute zero is defined as 0K on the Kelvin scale and as −273.15° on the Celsius scale. This equates to −459.67° on the Fahrenheit scale and 0 R on the Rankine scale. Scientists have achieved temperatures extremely close to absolute zero, where matter exhibits quantum effects such as superconductivity and superfluidity. In these new paintings white forms the arena. The figure I use is akin to a mantra. A repetitive statement or word or sound used in the process of meditation. The human form is a potent image and needs no explanation or definition. The theme is movement and fluidity Though white is indeed a colour, for me it is a neutral pure base on which to freeze the action. Fluidity is as far as I get on a journey to achieve superfluidity (if you like). Nothing fixed, constant motion forcing the eye to continually scan finding no fixed focal point yet guided by an inevitable geometry. The aim is to create pure rhythm and movement in a frozen scene...probably as impossible as achieving absolute zero.

Biography : Jerome Lagarrigue was born in Paris in 1973. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Detailed Description : Jérôme Lagarrigue is a funambulist. As Jean-Marc Terrasse tells us, his personal history, artistic choices and worldview contribute to his singular approach and precarious equilibrium. He is the product of two cultures - the European one of his father, and the American of his mother ; one is white, the other is black. He grew up on a tightrope stretched between these two worlds. This permanent state of tension is the backbone of his work; it generates a form of violence in him that is galvanised in his painting. He has a contemporary eye, formatted to the measure of new image technologies. The prism of the photographic lens and the blur of freeze frames are the cornerstones of his approach. This dematerialisation allows him to get as close as possible to people and their flesh: “Closer”, indicates the title of his 2011-2012 exhibition. These paintings present us with over-detailed bodies, as though the aim was to make them lose their own reality and authorize a metaphysics of introspection. Jérôme Lagarrigue’s approach is nonetheless a poetic experience and, through the tests of time and exposure to the gaze of others, the body takes on a new reality beyond time and space, and thus beyond death… as though each work was a corporeal and pictorial aphorism, loaded with an emotional charge.

Biography : Born in 1950 in Paimpol, France. Lives and works in Normandy. Studied literature, influenced by Robert Musil and Marcel Duchamp. Formerly a sculptor, involved in the IT business through machines design. Graduated from the art institute of Aix en Provence (France) in 1976. Managing Director of SMT-GOUPIL in 1978. First exhibition in 1984 at the CNRS / Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (Paris), invited by Fernand Braudel. Over the years, sculptures developed to be monumental in scale.

Detailed Description : Circulating in a network of delicate metallic wires, the counterpoint movement and rhythm of lights in Alain Le Boucher’s sculptures continually transform the viewer’s perception of volume. Skeletal, sculptural, electronic and fanciful, Le Boucher programs and formulates his LED sculptures to move with the mystery and precision of the starry night sky. “The light of the stars draws my particular attention -- an attraction which I’ve had since my earliest childhood. I make the acquaintance of astronomers, who like artists are personages on the margin of society, remaining aloof from the dictates of suffocating consumerism.” Le Boucher graduated from the Art Institute of Aix in Provence in 1976, before briefly working in machine design within the Information Technology field. Influenced by Robert Musil and Marcel Duchamp, it was in 1982 that he created the first of his light sculptures he is now so well known for, the Luchrones. Public art and monumental pieces soon became his preferred form of expression, beginning with a piece he created for the Paris Museum of Modern Art in 1985. Since then, his public works have occupied Bourges, Omans, Reims, and Argeles.

Biography : Ayline Olukman is an artist and writer who was born in Strasbourg, France and currently resides in New York. Since 2006, Ayline has found her inspiration in travel. She’s lived in various locations throughout her life and now spends half the year living in NYC and the other half travelling abroad. Her travels have taken her many places around the world; such as, Japan, China, Argentina, Canada, Thailand, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, Iceland, Egypt, and many more. This permanent call to elsewhere pushes her to live with fervor, fueling her artistic energy. Ayline Olukman’s work has been exhibited and collected worldwide, including features in various art fairs, from the United States to China. She is also a published artist and author - in 2012 she published her first book of photography, Small Eternity. In October 2015 Olukman joined the writing staff at French magazine NOVO.

Detailed Description : The notion of time and movement is ever-present in Ayline Olukman’s mixed-media work. Influenced by cinematography (David Lynch being one of her favorite filmmakers), she captures moments as if they were taken from a film reel. Her works balance between fiction and autobiography. Her beautiful and timeless images are created through an elaborate technique where photography, painting, and screen-printing generate eminently poetic compositions; sometimes bordering on unreal. Her artistic processes consist of multiple steps. She starts by printing her photographs in segments on standard paper, in a manner that appears aged and worn. She then pieces the segments together using a technique similar to wallpapering, adding a “second skin” to the canvas. In true post-modern fashion, she then adds multiple layers of paint and varnish, altering the appearance and nature of her media, and, ultimately, resulting in a glossy photographic feeling where painting and photography morph into one another.

Biography : Magí Puig was born in the Catalonian village of Palou, Lleida in 1966. Completing his artistic training at the Sant-Jordi University of Fine Arts in 1989, he later pursued advanced studies at the Winchester School of Art in the UK. He currently lives and works in Tàrrega, Spain.

Detailed Description : From a young age, Puig has been passionate about drawing. Fueled by an urgent necessity to channel and interpret the world around him, painting eventually provided the ideal outlet for his creative impulses. Recurring themes in the work of Puig include scenes of daily life within a local and international context. The study of the human figure and the interplay of light also form important considerations, evidenced in the plein-air scenes of beaches, markets, and those depicting the intimacy of familial life. The painter defines himself as an alchemist that distills the essence of a complex reality in order to offer his own essence: a perfume that goes beyond the mere appearance of color and searches for the soul of objects.

Biography : Cesar Santos’ work has been exhibited around the world—to name a few: the Annigoni Museum and Villa Bardini Museums in Italy, the National Gallery in Costa Rica, the Beijing World Art Museum in China, and many other institutions throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Cuban-born, Miami-based Santos studied at Miami-Dade College, where he earned his Associate in the Arts Degree in 2003. He then attended the New World School of the Arts before traveling to Florence, Italy. In 2006, he graduated from the Angel Academy of Art in Florence where he studied classical art. Santos has received numerous accolades, including first place in a Metropolitan Museum of Art competition, and he was recently presented with the 2013 Miami-Dade College Hall of Fame Award in Visual Arts.

Detailed Description : Waltman Ortega Fine Art presents works from “Trudl” a photographic project by Israeli photographer Tali Amitai-Tabib. The project is based on the story of Trudl Böhm-Williams, a young German-Jewish girl who lived during World War I and had to leave her home in Germany after Nazis came to power. She found refuge in Great Britain in 1939. During more than six decades she took photographs of the places where she lived, worked, and spent her vacations. With Trudl, Israeli artist Amitai-Tabib not only deals with personal topics, such as her own story, her family and private life, but she also questions the complex and tight link between memory and fiction. This project, result of five years of research, is presented as a photographic and literary installation.

Detailed Description : With the architecture of offices today being more transparent, in 2007 I decided once again to explore this area as an extension of my work of social urban archaeology. These photographs capture the reality of individuals who are closer linked to modern architecture. They dig into the world of the service sector through the glass openings of modern office towers. Open spaces become completely accessible then and reveal the details of a standardized world which usually escape us. Biography : Luis Cruz Azaceta, born April 5, 1942, is a Cuban American visual artist. He left Cuba as a teenager in 1960. After immigrating to the United States, Azaceta lived in New York, graduated from The School of Visual Arts and began his long career as an artist. Since the late 1970s the paintings and drawings of Luis Cruz Azaceta have been addressing the moral and ethical pulse of this country. Early works focused on urban violence, the Aids epidemic, and racism. His current works relate to the rapid state of change in the world at large - war, terrorism, displacement, identity, and collapsing economies. Azaceta is a devotee of visual experiment who often develops parallel series in several media at once, combining materials in totally unexpected ways, as with his extended series of photographs mounted on twisted metal stud. Azaceta works constantly and is extremely prolific. For Azaceta, art is a way of facing the world. He recognizes that change is inevitable, and that all of us are implicated by reality and time passing. The world we inhabit is contingent and changing; and chaos is an inherent part of the process. This is the reality we all share and which we all too often ignore. He has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally and has been awarded grants including The Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, The New York Foundation for the Arts, The Joan Mitchell Foundation. Detailed Description : Ronald Dupont's large-scale works of New York scenes perfectly capture the bustle and frantic energy of the city that never sleeps. Views of Manhattan, as seen through the eyes of a European artist, the paintings are an outsider's vision in glorious Technicolor. His viewpoint is interesting and unusual, his angles often ones that native-born New Yorkers might ignore. Dupont started using oil paint, then wax, and now works with Venice turpentine, enabling him to capture in his paintings the vibrating reflections of the city. Often misleading our apprehension of perspective, they open the surface of the painting to a dimension up to now invisible. The eye enjoys losing itself in the complexity and the richness of his compositions; the bold colors and sophisticated textures. The neons of the Times Square ripple as the light, often saturated, melts in the façades, never revealing its source. Dupont portrays a town which is often visited too quickly, nevertheless, anybody who had ever visited New-York would recognize its unique atmosphere in these paintings.

Biography : Marcus Egli considered himself as much a metalworker as he did an artist. He was born in Zurich in 1957 to a family of craftsmen and he studied precision engineering. He spent part of his youth drifting happily and was offered a bursary at Art College to study arts. Before taking up his place at college, he travelled to America, and on his return to Switzerland, he decided to set up his studio. Marcus and his wife Rita bought an aluminum forge and workshop, where Egli began producing his art work since around 1985. Egli lived and worked in a mountain village outside of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He died there in 2016.

Detailed Description : Marcus Egli was one of Switzerland’s most successful sculptors with his distinctive work in aluminum. Starting with raw aluminum, he heated, hammered, cut, welded and polished each piece by hand, making each figure unique. Egli called his mini sculptures “Hominiums”. These sculpted figures, often generic, can be found in rows, lines, blocks, some are in cages, others scattered loosely, the artworks illustrates Marcus’ fascination with freedom and the issues of humanity. Egli’s faceless, aluminum crowds reflect the modern world, often literally, where people live trapped in the boxes of their homes, the restrictions of their jobs, and the constraints of societal pressures.

Detailed Description : “I tend to work in some sort of guided improvisation. I usually start with an idea of composition, or a “plastic event” or even a mere pretext and I try to build something coherent and heterogeneous. The way I paint is very much influenced by the jazzmen I had the chance to work with. They taught me that improvised creation is not a total abandon but rather a constant tension between a stable structure and the possibility of an instant, unexpected. I look for a road between the rule and the immediate sensation. I dream of painting without constraint. I want to let the elements exist on their own. I don't like them to be dissolved into the whole "image". I also like simple materials and I want to make painting appear like a balance between painting, drawing, and a poster… I am afraid not to be a good critic for my paintings… I just hope that people who look at my work enjoy the journey and build their own "stories". Detailed Description : The Nada project is a reflection on the use of words and the invasion of advertising currently taking place in our contemporary societies. We are surrounded by words. Words are present in our everyday lives. Messages on advertising billboards, walls, façades, windows, shopping bags, cars, buses, underground, lorries, floors, roads, plots of land, television, newspapers… this constant onslaught of messages brings us to a saturation point where words tend to loose their meanings. These sugary delicacies seem to penetrate the very fabric of the canvas, which is “tinted sky blue, iced pink, and layered with gold.” The porous canvas no longer gives off whiffs of turpentine oil but rather the scents of sweets and sours, like a Baudelairean reminder of the past set off by these little treats whose “intoxicating memory flutters about, dear poison prepared by the angels.” This generalized nothing is recurrent, from Barcelona to Beijing and from Mexico City to Cairo. And the conclusion seems to be that, while the forms may vary, the tangible reality remains the same. Needs have become globalized and stereotyped, despite the sometimes abysmal differences of the settings. The project was an immersion in the emptiness of words. I aimed to clearly and nakedly illustrate the conceptual emptiness in which I move. The nada appears repeatedly, not only expressing emptiness and non-existence but also filling our visual environment with its presence. Hence, the nada opens the door to reflection; from silence, it becomes a scream towards questioning. What is the reaction to the awareness of the nada? And this meaning, while, in principle, empty, aims to prompt a reconsideration of our coexistence with words.

Biography : Christian Renonciat was born in 1947 in Paris. He lives and works in Issy-les-Moulineaux. In 1969 he studied at an art studio in Antibes and set up his own studio at Valbonne in 1975.

Detailed Description : Sculptor Christian Renonciat differentiates himself through his approach: what he tries to find is not so much the realism of the forms, but that of the matter. The folded or draped fabric; the paper - folded, crumpled, or unfolded; the torn cardboard, as well as the wool or the plastic, all are carried out with the extreme precision, so are the window dressing made out of wood of poplar, lime or ayous. When he creates his monumental sculptures, he uses not only wood but also bronze, steel or aluminum. One step at a time as he works on his sculptures, he sort of forgets about its shape and focuses not only on its texture, but also seeks for abstract qualities in it. Christian Renonciat exhibited his works at various cultural institutions worldwide such as Center of Contemporary Art of Matmut, the Museum of Modern Art of Dubrovnik and the Museum of Fine Art of Reims, just to name a few. He created several important commissions for international companies, of which the most well known one was a collaboration with the Hermès company. He made a public monument for the city Issy-les-Moulineaux (France) and La Rochelle on the southwest of France. He exhibites his works at FIAC, FIAD and Art Elysée, where he was the guest of honor.

Detailed Description : “United Land” is a submarine vision of a series of cities and landscapes from around the world. The images depict a man made water-rise that engulfs the planet and its landmarks. The series explores the possible disappearance of a human's vital space - Earth. The project aims to conceptually capture the idea of temporary existence as well as the end of the world. The photography technique used gives the impression that the shot is void of inhabitants. The water shots come from the artist’s database of images from French Polynesia during a scuba diving expedition in 2009. The two shots are layered and the final image is created through post-production techniques. The artist uses this series to convey the fragility of our physical and psychological spaces as we know them to exist. United Land represents an instant of time where activity and movement are halted and human existence is compromised. He uses waster as a symbol of man’s loss of control.

Biography : Joe Segal was born in New York in 1963. After growing up on Long Island he moved to St Augustine, Florida and attended Flagler College where he studied with sculptor Enzo Torcoletti. Segal graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in visual arts in 1989 and then returned to New York to study bronze casting at The Sculpture Center. Segal is one of the most innovative sculptors working in Florida, creating compelling art that typically combil1es wood, manipulated and processed in some way, with steel or aluminum objects. He has been featured in public exhibitions at the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art ( solo show in 2005, featuring prints and sculpture ), The University of South Florida, The Cummer Museum of Jacksonville, The Atlantic Center for the Arts, and the gallery at Flagler College in St. Augustine. Public collections in which his sculpture can be found include the Bass Museum in Miami, the Lowe Museum in Coral Gables and the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2000, Segal was a recipient of Fostering Vitality in the Arts grant from the Jacksonville Community Foundation. In 2001 he received an Individual Artist Fellowship from the State of Florida: both of these were related to his sculpture. In 2003 he was awarded another grant from the Jacksonville Community Foundation and in 2004, an Artistic Enhancement Grant from the State of Florida. These last two were in recognition of Segal's experimentation with printmaking.

Detailed Description : "My most recent sculptures are a departure because of the way that color is being used. I've always thought of lumber as a processed material that has the energy of nature beneath its surface. I expose areas of beams to show this force but in the past, my surface treatments (burning, scraping, whitewashing) have been used to show the material's passage through time which is an evolution from tree to lumber then to sculpture. In the new work, color is used to emphasize the power of the raw material. I think of my work as observations of time passing and these round pieces are also statements about different concepts of time. There is a notion that time is linear: the past is somewhere behind us while the future is farther ahead. There is also a cyclical concept of time: the sun rises and sets every day, the seasons come every year. In ancient Chinese art life is symbolized by tsung, a notched column and heaven is represented by pi, a disc. Tsung was the inspiration for my vertical sculptures such as those in the “Seam” series. The circular sculptures combine the symbol for life and heaven through a disc that is notched and segmented.
