About

For its first appearance at Art Wynwood, Yuan Ru Gallery, Taipei, is proud to exhibit three Taiwanese artists: Chien-Hsing Lien, Julie Hsieh, and Yen-Fu Kuo. Through various creative mediums, these artists enter a dialog that share their cultural tradition and distinctive views of the world.

Chien-Hsing Lien, a famous Taiwanese artist known for his unique style of “desolate magical realism,” presents a set of fictional narratives that use logic and imagination to explore his personal memories. His paintings invite the viewer to observe Taiwan's landscapes as he fuses them with fantastical imagery. His works navigate the present by way of Taiwan’s history and his powerful subtle allegories.

Julie Hsieh, MD, a contemporary Taiwanese artist raised in the United States but now making her home in her native Taiwan, shares abstractions of color and rhythmic shapes. On display is her renaissance upbringing, applying her musical background and knowledge of the healing arts to drive her works beyond the boundaries of the canvas to ignite and inspire viewers with bursts of colors that shape and direct her passions.

Yen-Fu Kuo, a popular Taiwanese actor and singer that now directs his considerable creative talent to canvas, brings his unique vision to his abstract images of the every day. His popular suitcase series showcases his deep observations of the world, using the suitcase as the frame to understand its true subject: the traveler. Using objects as reflection, the artist shows the interaction between travel and the thoughts of the hidden subject.

Through the works of these three contemporary artists, Yuan Ru Gallery hopes to inspire viewers to enter the imaginary boundary between a person’s inner and outer world, and, by sharing each painting’s emotional kinetic energy, to enjoy the organic connections between the artist, the viewer, and the broader world.
